Europe’s New Entry/Exit System

On October 12, 2025, the European Union launched a new border control system called the Entry/Exit System (EES).
It replaces the old process of stamping passports with a digital record of when and where non-EU travelers enter and leave the Schengen Area.

That means if you’re visiting countries such as Italy, France, Portugal, Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, or Spain, your passport is now scanned electronically, and your photo and fingerprints are taken the first time you enter. Once registered, future crossings should be faster.

The system aims to improve border security and make travel more efficient across Europe. Some airports and border points may still be adjusting, so travelers could experience slightly longer waits during this transition period.

As Europe modernizes its borders, small changes like the new Entry/Exit System are all part of making travel smoother and more secure. We’ll continue to keep our travelers informed as new systems roll out — so when you’re ready for your next Food N’ Wine Vacations journey through Italy, France, Greece, or beyond, you’ll know exactly what to expect.
